Job Description: Orientation and Mobility Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Orientation and Mobility Specialist to work with individuals of all ages, providing essential training and support to help them navigate their environments safely and independently. You will deliver personalized orientation and mobility instruction on a PRN (as needed) basis, ensuring that your clients gain the skills they need to move confidently through their daily lives.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized training plans, conducting assessments, and providing ongoing support to your clients. We are looking to hire specialists in San Antonio, TX, and the surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

• Provide personalized orientation and mobility training to clients, teaching them how to navigate various environments safely and independently.
• Develop and implement individualized instruction plans based on client needs and goals.
• Conduct assessments to determine clients’ current abilities and progress.
• Collaborate with clients, families, and other professionals to establish training goals and objectives.
• Document and communicate client progress through detailed reports.
• Maintain an updated calendar and communicate availability for PRN sessions.
• Offer ongoing support and guidance to clients to ensure continued success.

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or equivalent.
• Previous experience in orientation and mobility training or related fields.
• Strong knowledge of mobility techniques, adaptive technology, and safety protocols.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build rapport and work effectively with clients of all ages.
• Reliable transportation for in-person sessions.
• Flexibility to work on a PRN basis, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Willingness to travel up to 15 miles. Travel reimbursement may be offered for extended travel.
• Must have access to a computer for documenting sessions and maintaining communication.
